National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, Santa Paula, CA
Jensen Design & Survey, Inc. is currently providing entitlement permitting, engineering, and survey services for a new National Training Center (NTC) in Santa Paula for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. The NTC will be the only facility of its kind in the nation and will be specifically designed for training first responder urban disaster search and rescue canine teams. Search Dog Foundation teams have responded to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001, the La Conchita mudslides on January 10, 2005, the Metrolink train collision in Chatsworth on September 12, 2008, and the Haiti Earthquake on January 12, 2010. Their most recent deployment was to Christchurch, New Zealand in response to the February 2011 earthquake.
The project will include the retrofit/remodel of existing structures and construction of new facilities. The NTC will include a welcome center, organization offices, a caretaker’s residence, accommodations for handlers, a training pavilion, and other accessory structures. A large portion of the site will be utilized for canine training using rubble piles and props such as barrels, ladders, tunnels and modular structures constructed like a movie set for easy alteration to avoid repetition memory in canine training. Search and rescue simulations will occur during the daytime and in the evening. All of these training areas mimic real life-saving conditions to which SDF canine disaster search teams are deployed.

Community Memorial Hospital Cancer Center
The need for a new hospital building at Community Memorial Hospital necessitated the relocation of several existing uses in structures adjacent to the existing hospital. One of those uses was a cancer clinic. This project resulted in the construction of a new, modern facility located at the corner of Brent Street and Loma Vista Road. An existing parking lot and vacant houses were converted to the new facility. The building opened in December 2010. The architect of record was Rasmussen and Associates, who are assisting CMH in their redevelopment plans for the main campus. |

Community Memorial Replacement Hospital
To meet the latest Federal requirements for hospital safety, Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) has chosen to construct a new hospital structure, rather than retrofit its existing building. A new 6 story building will be constructed south of the existing hospital. As part of this development, CMH has chosen to redevelop a large area bounded on three sides by existing streets. Construction of the new building will also involve development of a new city park, redevelopment of an existing retail center and parking lot, new city streets, and future development of ancillary use buildings and parking structure. The design/build team includes a large Hospital consultant from Missouri, as well as several local firms with long experience with CMH. The local team is responsible for design of improvements necessary to prepare the site for the new main hospital building, as well as oversight of the proposed main building design. |
